As we begin to stretch our legs and get ready for our next adventure away from home, it’s important that we look ahead to how our travel can impact locals from our destination. Especially under the current Covid threat, supporting locals takes on a new meaning.
As part of the Travel Care Code, we encourage people to support locals when travelling. In the past, that typically meant in an economic way. Now, support has taken on another meaning – regardless of where, we are all fighting this global pandemic. As you get ready for your trip, look into what the local government’s recommendations or requirements for members of the community are.
As a guest in a new location, you can support the people who call your destination home by wearing a mask, following local health guidelines, and encouraging others traveling with you to show their support for locals not just with their wallets, but also with the measures they take to fight the spread of disease in the community.
Traveling responsibly means caring for the destination community that you visit. Now, more than ever, you have the ability to showcase your compassion – wear your mask proud, and show everyone (from a safe distance, of course) your support.
