Take time to learn about your destination

As we take this unwelcome corona-virus break, and start planning for when we can get back out “on the road”, now is the perfect time to do some homework on our next destination (or two).

Taking time to learn a little about our destination can enrich the travel experience and increase understanding between visitors and host communities. Learning even a little about the local culture and ways it differs from our own can enhance the experience and reduce the possibility of cultural misunderstanding. Go ahead –

• Checkout a travel guidebook or website before traveling
• Watch a documentary about the destination. It doesn’t have to be a travelogue – choose something that you are interested in. If you love food, find a show about the food traditions of the destination.
• You may even take some time learn a couple of words of the local language.

It’ll add a great new dimension to your travel experience.
